Title:Pune City two wins away from semis berth: Gouramangi Singh

News Paper

NEW DELHI: India international Moirangthem Gouramangi Singh, who is an integral part of Pune City's defence this season, is optimistic that his side will come out triumphant against tough Delhi Dynamos at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Thursday. The 2010 AIFF Player of the Year also said that the situation will be clearer for all the teams in the next one week after two more rounds are completed.

"If we look at the standings, it's very tight. We are in a very healthy position but have not secured the play-offs yet. So in the last four games, we are looking for two consecutive wins, which should confirm our qualification. Not only our team, the situation will be clearer for all after next two rounds," said the Pune defender.

"Even though we lost the home game against Delhi, we played very well and even their manager Roberto Carlos said that it was a tough match. The match could have gone either way and if that was our day we would have won it. So similarly today it will be tough but we are very optimistic that we can win it."

Gouramangi's long-time defensive partner Moirangthem Govin Singh, who played alongside him at Churchill Brothers, agrees. "Delhi's defence is strong but we will try hard to win the match," said Govin.

"If we can win two of the remaining four games, I believe we can qualify for the semis. It is very tough competition as everyone is playing at their best. It will be tough but Pune have good chance to win the league this season. Goa and Delhi are the toughest we have played so far and even though we lost against Delhi early in the season, it was a very tight match."

Citing Pune's scoring prowess, Gouramangi stated the fact that they have scored in eight of ten games so far. "We missed out in scoring only twice in ten games. So we are confident of scoring against Delhi too. They are playing very well and that's why they are with 15 points like us, but we can penetrate their defence," he said. "We are concentrating on one match at a time. As we have witness this season that any team can beat anyone, we have to plan for one match at a time. It's very unpredictable since all teams are well prepared."

Govin, who played for Delhi Dynamos in the inaugural season, feels that he is having more fun with Pune. "Delhi was also good, but personally I feel Pune's team environment is better. The coaching and support staffs, like physio, treat us very well. So, it's easy to recover from the injuries here," said the mild-mannered left back.
